Healthcare delivery is constantly evolving in the face of population growth, our increasingly diverse and aging communities, changing approaches to delivering healthcare and availability of new technology. Health professionals need to be more collaborative, team-focussed and adaptable than ever before. To meet these challenges, the University of Tasmania, in partnership with major health providers, is launching a more flexible and agile approach to providing educational offerings for health professionals throughout their careers. The Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to expand your contribution to healthcare and meet your continuing professional development requirements with a flexible online approach. The course has been developed with health industry partners and features a strong inter-disciplinary approach, drawing on content from a broad range of disciplines across the University of Tasmania, with an emphasis on providing you with the flexibility to choose content that best progresses your career ambitions.The program will provide you with a strong foundation in leadership skills and critical thinking, helping you to analyse and resolve the complex problems that you face in the health system. You can then choose from a curated selection of subjects, expanding your knowledge in fields including epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health service innovation, health informatics and digital health.Become a capable and responsive educator and supervisor.The Healthcare Education specialisation will develop your knowledge and skills to make you a more effective leader, educator and clinical supervisor. In the core units you will explore clinical supervision theory and practice and critically review models of supervision across professions and healthcare contexts using a framework for effective leadership and supervision. You will reflect on your own clinical supervision experiences and practice within the existing models and will analyse, reflect and plan improvements in personal supervisory practice. Choice units will allow you to explore other aspects of healthcare education including simulation, learning and teaching in healthcare settings and educational professionalism. The Healthcare Education specialisation is designed for health professionals working in a range of health and human service settings who want to develop skills in learner supervision, designing education for their peers, and developing educational interventions.Once you have completed your specialisation you will select a research pathway of your choice.<ul><li>The Capstone Pathway will develop your research skills as you design and conduct a quality improvement project relevant to your workplace and/or career aspirations.</li><li>In the Research Pathway, you will complete a substantial piece of original, independent research, focussed on the topics that are of particular interest, that provides you with a pathway to a Higher Degree by Research.</li></ul>The Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) has been co-designed with major health providers for the health workforce, with content developed to meet the needs of health professionals from all disciplines. The program is open to anyone with a health-related bachelor degree, or a bachelor degree in an unrelated area with at least two years&#39; experience in the health workforce.If you already have a health-related Graduate Certificate (or higher) you may be eligible for advanced standing into the program.The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Practice and Graduate Diploma of Advanced Practice (Specialisation) also articulate directly into the Master of Advanced Practice (Specialisation), providing you with a seamless pathway to progress your career in a meaningful new direction and advance practice in your health organisation. Master of Advanced Practice (Healthcare Education)

This subject will provide you with the opportunity to apply theories of teaching and learning in healthcare settings. Your knowledge and skills will be further developed through examining practical issues related to assessing learners as well as the provision of feedback to enhance performance. Your teaching knowledge and skills will be evidenced through lesson planning, the development of a teaching portfolio, and reflection on practice.

Applied Learning and Teaching for Health Professionals

In this subject, you will explore the main adult learning theories and how they can inform your teaching and learning in healthcare settings. You will evaluate the effectiveness of various instructional methods, tools and technology for diverse healthcare contexts and audiences. You also will have the opportunity to analyse the principles and strategies for evaluating teaching and examine best practices for providing feedback on teaching and learning.

Learning and Teaching in Healthcare Settings

This subject considers the knowledge and skills required to facilitate engaging learning experiences within applied learning settings. In the unit, you will examine the theoretical underpinnings of learner and teacher engagement in a range of contexts, including face-to-face and online, and develop and evaluate techniques aimed at increasing levels of engagement. Through practical assessment tasks, you will develop your facilitation skills and explore ways to increase participation of learners. In this subject, you will consider how educators can foster an environment where learners become increasingly responsible and self-directed in their own applied learning setting.This subject suits individuals with some experience in working with learners (e.g. practicing teachers, trainers, classroom aides, or industry people who have worked with apprentices) who are interested in exploring issues of student disengagement, drawing on theories of how and why students might be engaged and then trialing new facilitation approaches that target student engagement.Note: The third assessment task requires facilitation of a session with a class or small group of learners, so you will need to have access to a group to do this.
